Miami, FL — It was an informative day during which several Miami-Dade County Public Schools staff members came together to share important information that parents need to know about the education system.
Dr. Witza L. Nibbs, a veteran educator with more than 30 years of experience in the school system, was accompanied by Kerly Perard, a school counselor; Olivia Jean-Baptiste, who works in the enrollment department; and Patricia W. B. Estiverne, a counselor in the vocational department.
Each of them, based on their area of expertise, provided valuable information to parents on topics such as how to pre-register their children, check their children’s grades, stay informed about school activities, and communicate effectively with teachers. There is an app available for download on both Android and Apple devices that allows users to log into the system using their email address.
Documents Required for Registration
Parents may be required to present the following at the time of registration:
- Verification of age and legal name
- Verification of the parent/legal guardian’s current residence
- Health and immunization requirements
Forms Parents/Legal Guardians Must Complete
At the time of registration, parents or legal guardians must complete:
- Home Language Survey Form (FM-5196)
- Emergency Student Data Form (FM-2733)
- Disclosure at Time of Registration (FM-5740)
- Project UP-START Student Questionnaire (FM-7378)
Verifying Your Address
Parents or legal guardians must provide two of the following to verify their address:
- A broker’s or attorney’s statement confirming purchase of a residence, or a properly executed lease agreement
- A current Homestead Exemption Card
- An electric deposit receipt or electric bill showing the parent’s name and service address
- Miami-Dade County Public Schools Statement of Bona Fide Residence (FM-7444)
Career Opportunities for Parents and Adults
In addition to educational opportunities for children, parents also have the opportunity to return to school and prepare for a new career. Programs are available in fields such as CNA, LPN, Electricity, Plumbing, Phlebotomy, and more.
These programs are designed to accommodate working adults, with daytime and evening class schedules. Childcare resources may also be available for parents who need assistance while attending classes.
Although heavy rain prevented many parents from attending the information session, the Miami-Dade County Public Schools team promised to return to the Academy, as these programs are extremely important to the community. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities — continued participation helps demonstrate the community’s need for these valuable programs.
